My spouse and I have been criss-crossing the South Mountains for years with Todd Bostwock's "Landscape of the Spirits" book in hand, searching for petroglyphs. Many are not easy to locate, and I think the book is deliberately vague about where the glyphs are, out of fear that some visitors may deface them. Many already have been.
Have you visited the huge site on the shoulder of Shaw Butte, with its astronomically-aligned central stone? Way cool, that.
